경상북도 울릉군 울릉읍 독도리 산 1-37번지에 위치한 독도는 두 개의 섬으로 이루어져 있다. 동남쪽에 위치한 동도는 유인 등대를 비롯하여 대부분의 해양수산 시설이 설치되어 있다. 높이는 98.6m, 둘레 2.8km, 면적 73,297m2이다. 서북쪽에 위치한 서도는 높이 168.5m, 둘레 2.6km, 면적 88,639m2이다. 서도의 주요 시설물로 주민 숙소가 있다.
독도는 우리나라에서 가장 먼저 해가 뜨는 곳이다. 대한민국 사람들이라면 독도가 어디에 위치해 있는지, 일본과 어떤 분쟁을 벌이고 있는지 모르는 사람이 없을 정도로 유명한 섬이다.
물론 우리에게 소중한 영토이며 자산이다. 독도는 울릉도 동남쪽 89km 떨어진 곳에 위치하며, 일본의 오키시마로부터는 160km의 거리에 있다.
행정구역상으로는 경상북도 울릉군 울릉읍 독도리 산 1-37번지로 되어 있다. 또한 우리나라 천연기념물로 지정되었다.
독도는 경제적인 측면과 지정학적인 면에서도 가치가 매우 높다. 독도 주변의 바다는 명태, 오징어, 상어, 연어 등 다양한 물고기들이 많이 잡힌다.
바닷속에도 다시마, 소라, 전복 등 해조류가 다양하게 서식하며 상당량의 지하자원이 묻혀 있는 곳이다.
[독도가 대한민국 영토인 이유]
1) 『삼국사기』(512)이후로 꾸준히 우리나라 고문헌, 고지도에 독도에 대한 언급이 있으나, 일본의 고헌, 고지도에는 언급이 없거나 일본령이 아니라고 말함
2) 일본막부는 돗토리번으로부터 독도는 일본영토가 아니라는 답변을 받았으며, 1696년 조선의 안용복은 일본의 오키섬을 찾아가 독도가 조선땅이라는 답변을 받아옴
3) 1900년 10월 25일 고종은 독도를 울릉도의 부속섬으로 정하는 대한제국 칙령 제41호를 제정했으며, 광복 이후 실질적으로 대한민국 영토주권을 행사하고 있음
The reason why Dokdo is considered a territory of the Republic of Korea lies in historical and legal grounds. Despite Japan's repeated claims, the Korean government has been continuously maintaining and exercising its territorial rights over Dokdo through various measures, such as sending coast guard vessels and building facilities for the protection and preservation of the island's natural environment.
In conclusion, Dokdo has been an integral part of Korea's territory for a long time, both historically and legally. The Korean government has been managing and controlling the island, and has obtained recognition from international organizations, including the United Nations. Therefore, it is clear that Dokdo is a territory of the Republic of Korea.
